 "Received the wrong product" 2010-06-10
By J. Ellis (Houston, TX)
ORIGINAL REVIEW: 6/10/2010

I received the WinTV-HVR-1850 today. I was irritated to find that the card in the box is not the card pictured or described above. While the card is labeled as the WinTV-HVR-1850 on Amazon, it does not have 3 coax inputs, and does not have RCA inputs either.

Actual Product Displayed:

WinTV-HVR-1850 PCIe for Vista White Box PCIe Atsc HD

The only reason I selected this particular card is the ability to add two additional TV tuners as well as one FM tuner to my existing HTPC. First things first, I had customer service call me, and as expected, my phone rang instantly. They're sending a new card overnight, and the gent I spoke with said he'd put a note on the ship slip to ensure that the card I receive is the one that's pictured on the product page.

They're showing a picture of the HVR-1800. If you do some googling for images of the HVR-1850, you'll see pictures of the card with 2 coax in and other pictures with 3 coax. If you then zoom in a bit to see the model number, it reads 1800 for the model on the 3 coax in card.

I'll update tomorrow with the results.

UPDATED: 6/23/2010

As mentioned, I was in touch with Amazon (extremely prompt and courteous as always.) After explaining that the product I bought (or so I thought) was the product in the picture, not the product in their warehouse, the CSR ensured me that they'd send the proper card. They sent a replacement product overnight. It was again the wrong product. Let's be very clear - the product in the picture is the WinTV-HVR-1800. The product you'll receive is the WinTV-HVR-1850. While the 1850 is an upgrade release, it does not have three coax inputs as shown in the image. The Analog and FM share the same input. As well, it does not have RCA inputs, but rather an 1/8" audio input. Amazon provided return shipping free of charge for both cards I received, and they credited my account promptly. As well, they gave me an account credit to cover the difference in price when I had to buy from a different supplier.

I've been a regular (often time multiple items per week) Amazon shopper for years, and this is the first time anything like this has happened. After some additional research, I've learned that the problem originates with Happauge. They're releasing the new product as a replacement for the old, and referring to them by the same model number. The product that's pictured on this Amazon item is the WinTV-HVR-1800 but the product you will receive is the WinTV-HVR-1850 (NOT THE PRODUCT IN THE PICTURE - VERY IMPORTANT.)

If you're interested in seeing the product you will receive, please visit the Hauppage website directly and search for that model.

"Very Easy to install and set up" 2010-03-31
By Japannet
Some of the reviews i read before i purchased said it was difficult to install and get working right. But after purchasing and installing/setting up myself that was not my experience. I found it very easy to do. One small problem from not reading the instructions was I couldn't get video to work with my HDMI port. So I went back to the instructions and it said I needed to go to the BIOS setup and switch it from integrated card (the one I was using) to dedicated card (I think it was called a PCI Express card in BIOS). Once I did that the computer found the card and the HDMI immediately began to work. I then set up the TV through following the wizard in Media Center (the program that comes with VISTA). That was very easy. Just make sure you have your digital feed (either over the air antenna, like I had, or a digital cable feed) connected to the correct connector on the card. I am pleasantly surprised how good the HDMI looks on my HD monitor.

 "Superb OTA Tuner Performance" 2010-03-10
By Dan
Absolutely the hottest performing OTA Tuner I have used which includes many... Its resistance to drop outs and pulling in weak over the air stations is absolutely the best!

I have 2 of them in 2 separate machines..

I do use the Win-TV app with the card in my desktop machine (XP Pro). Win-TV software has been historically buggy but it has improved over time..

The other machine loaded with Windows 7 Pro has the Windows Media Center which fully supports the card without the use of the Win-TV app. That machine serves as my HD-DVR.

"Not the Software CD that is advertized" 2010-02-26
By Miguel
The TV card work's fine, since I have Windows 7 64bit with media center, the OS find the drivers and install all from internet, but when I tried to install the software WinTV v7, downloaded from Hauppauge web site it need the original cd to install, then I found that the cd that comes with the card did not have the winTV v6 as advertized, it has only the drivers. I can not install the software unless I buy a cd from Hauppauge that cost 9.95
