The unit that shipped with EyeTv from Elgato died at home, I found that this is the exact same unit for $30 less. I plugged it in my Mac Mini and I was right back to TV again. I agree the remote is flimsy but I don't use it. I also plugged it into Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit on a Dell with 2 GB and it installed itself fine without using the cds. I've used it for over 1 year with no problems on either platform.

Pretty easy to install. Works well with Windows 7's media center but when changing channels there seems to be a bit of a lag which is why I gave it 4 stars.

This product will not install properly. The drivers available on the cd do not work and will usually time out and freeze your computer. And even it it completes the devices shown in the Device Manager of your computer show they were not able to be loaded properly. Furthermore the 'updated' drivers available on the Hauppauge website do not work either. In addition if you add the device to a Google search to search the tech forums, you see that this problem is widespread with no solutions. I am not sure where any positive reviews for this product are coming from because no one seems to make this product work.

We just bought a "power house" running Winders 7 premium 64-bit. Since this machine will have "everything" I will ever need, I decided to add on a USB TV tuner. I did some checking and this USB TV Tuner looked pretty spiffy. It even comes with a very small antenna that picks up stuff, but not very good. Most of the digital channels are pixilated and it can't/won't pick up some of our favorite channels.
I'm 21 miles from the Phoenix antenna farm on top of South Mountain. I can see the antenna farm from my roof, and have an antenna on the roof that picks up 47 crystal clear channels. The signal strength meters for all these channels on my other two digital TV's are pegged.
With the small, included antenna, it finds some of the stations, but can't receive most of them and I'm not sure why.
No problem, I'll just connect the antenna on my roof to the tuner and run setup (Windows 7 Media Center) with a new antenna.
BIG DISSAPOINTMENT - This tuner, with my external roof antenna, only found 4 channels.
I've tried running setup several times, with no success. I've ran setup with their crappy little antenna, and then switched to my external antenna, with no success. For some reason, this tuner can not use my external antenna, which I never dreamed would be a problem. I've contacted Hauppauge but have not received a response.
If you are close to the broadcast source, the small included antenna might work ok, however, my recommendation would be to try something else, especially since an external antenna source won't work. We DO NOT have cable or satellite services, just a nice big antenna on top of the house, so I can't respond on how well this works with other signal sources.

I just received this Hauppauge TV Tuner 07/30/2010 and installed it on 3 computers. My two desktops are running Win XP SP3 and my HP Laptop is running Vista Home Premium. Installation was flawless on all three computers and the channel download went smooth also. I have access to all my local TV networks in HD and I can access about 8 other stations, some in HD and others that are not. I keep the antennae that came with the device plugged in so I can't tell you how the device would work without it. I bought this device because I thought it was absolutely insane to have to continue paying $40.00 per month to a cable company when all I really wanted were my network stations. This device has exceeded all of my expectations because not only can I watch all of my favorite shows (mostly news) but I can also record them for viewing later. I'm watching 60 Minutes on my laptop right now while I'm typing this review and the picture couldn't be more perfect. I can't find the software that came with the device on my laptop but HP Media Smart and Windows Media software work just fine. I can't comment on the remote because I haven't needed it thus far. Free delivery took exceedingly long (about a week) but it was worth it. I would highly recommend this device.
